On 4th November, 2016, with an aim to gather IEEE members from all over Bangladesh, the IEEE Student Branch of University of Dhaka organized the 4th IEEE Bangladesh Section Student/Young Professionals/Women in Engineering Congress 2016 at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban. Over 400 IEEE members attended the daylong event which consisted of tracks under three different categories – Student, Young Professionals and Women in Engineering.
The program inaugurated with a welcome speech by AAMS Arefin Siddique, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, University of Dhaka. The opening ceremony was moderated by Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, Chairperson of IEEE Bangladesh Section and Dr. Md. Atiqur Rahman Ahad, Counselor at IEEE University of Dhaka Student Branch. During the event, number of notable guests graced us with their presence, including Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, BUET; Prof. Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu, Honorable Pro Vice-Chancellor, National University; Prof. Dr, Quazi Deen Mohd, Khosru, Head, Department of EEE, BUET; Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, IEEE Region 10 WIE Coordinator & Pro. Department of EEE, BUET; Mr. Sudeendra Koushik, Vice-Chairperson at IEEE Bangalore Section and Ms. Pragya Dixit, Entrepreneur and Co-Founder at Prasu. Various other respectable guests from industrial, technology and academic backgrounds attended the event as well. The program was organized with the full support from the executive members of IEEE Bangladesh Section who were also present in the program, along with the executives of Bangladesh Section’s WIE and YP Affinity Groups.
The Young Professionals Track of the congress initiated with an inaugural speech by Mr. Shams Shad Islam Khan, Chairperson of IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh who, along with the other executive committee members of the Affinity Group, moderated the track. The first talk in this track focused on the leadership abilities of a fresh graduate while making their choice of career. This 25 minute session was titled “Be Yourself; Choose Your Way” and was spoken by Mr. Tariqur Rahman, Graduate Trainee at Robi Axiata Limited. The next session in the track was concentrated on how IEEE can aid a graduate’s future and create a proper résumé. This was arranged through a short workshop on “IEEE ResumeLab and The Tips and Tricks of a Proper Résumé”, moderated by Mr. Nasim Al Islam, Treasurer at IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh and Teaching Assistant at American International University (AIUB). The Young Professionals track was generally themed to guide a fresh graduate in the transition from his university life to his professional life. The track ended with mementos presented to the respectable speakers for their time and dedication.
Though a small part of the IEEE Bangladesh Section SYW Congress 2016, the Young Professionals track highlighted the importance of leadership characteristics in an individual’s way to profession and possible solutions to the issues that they may face. This was the first congress where IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh played a significant role since formation and it was a wonderful success for them.
