IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh Section and IEEE Eastern University Student Branch (IEEE EUSB) jointly organized a seminar entitled ‘’Beginning of Android Application Development’’ on 04 June 2016 at 11:00 AM at Seminar Hall of Eastern University.

The event was graced by Mr. Abdullah Ash Saki, Membership Development Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section, Mr. Shams Shad Rafi, Chair, IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh Section, Mr. Nasim Al Islam, Treasurer, IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh Section & enthusiastic and energetic speaker Md. Rafi Kamal who is a software engineer working in the Android team of iPay Systems Ltd. He will be joining Google Sydney in this August as a software engineer. He completed his Bachelor’s degree from BUET on March 2016. Previously, he worked in Backpack Technologies Inc. He is the developer of Ridmik Dictionary, which is currently one of the most popular Bangla Dictionaries for Android.

At the beginning of the seminar, IEEE Eastern University Student branch chair Md. Rahid ul Ratul welcome all the guests and the participants. Then Speaker Md. Rafi Kamal engaged the students in a very interactive session. He presented so many stupendous reasons to the benefits of working with Android apps development.

Mobile application development is currently one of the most trending fields in software engineering. Unfortunately, it is generally not covered in university curriculum. The session was organized to introduce the students with mobile application development through hands-on coding in Android. The presentation covered an overview of Android platform, importance of Android app development, and necessary tools and technologies to get started. Later in the session a small Android app was coded in front of the audience. Various aspects of Android programming, such as user interface design, interacting with user inputs, running the app on Android emulator etc. were also discussed. Some useful resources on moving forward with Android application development was also presented at the end of the session

Later on, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rab, Vice Chancellor of Eastern University graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his speech he focused on the importance of the activities of IEEE for the students as well as for the faculty members of Engineering Faculty.

Prof. Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Chairperson, Dept. of CSE and also Counselor of IEEE Eastern University Student Branch emphasized on the enhancement of IEEE student activities and thanks to IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh section to the arrangement of the seminar. He also focused on volunteering work. In his speech, he addressed the need of engagement of IEEE activities and emphasized on student participation and collaborations. He expected that IEEE EU SB will contribute in engaging and participating students to the IEEE regional activities such as contest, competition, events; as well as organize seminar, workshops, research talks etc. for enhancing current technologies in-line with the slogan of IEEE.

After the formal proceedings, the floor was open for questions and answers and finally concluded with suggestions on further improvement of the branch activities. Finally the guests from IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh section interacted in a smaller group only with the Executive Committee members and exchanged their views.
