“How to Compose Premium Quality Figures for Academic Publications” – A Seminar by Taipei Young Professionals

On 24th January, 2017, the IEEE Young Professionals of Taipei Section organized a seminar on “How to Compose Premium Quality Figures for Academic Publications” at the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica, Taiwan.

The guest speaker of the event was Mr. Po-Chun Huang, Assistant Professor at Yuan Ze University, whose research focuses on Embedded Systems. The seminar was aimed to teach graduate students and research assistants in Taiwan the importance of figures. It also focused on showing how to produce high quality figures in their reports and papers.

The event commenced with a welcoming address by Dr. Yuan-Hao Chang, Chair of IEEE Taipei Young Professionals how Affinity Group. Dr. Chang talked about the augmentation of IEEE Young Professionals at Taipei Section and the necessity of researchers to know about good quality publication. After that, Mr. Po-Chun Huang initiated his talk by explaining that the significance of writing quality has been sufficiently emphasized because it is closely related to the readability of academic publications. He talked about how authors of research papers often ignore the fact that quality figures are usually the best way to efficiently and effectively deliver complex ideas to readers. From this, he moved on to give hands-on guidance to the audience on successfully sorting out the logical relationship among their ideas and converting those ideas into comprehensible figures. He also covered the introduction to pragmatic tools and techniques that are required to compose premium quality figures in an author’s publication. In addition, professor Huang also explained the integration of figures and texts for enhancing the overall presentation quality of academic publications.

The event was targeted towards the young professionals of Taipei Section who are interested in creating exceptional papers and reports of their research. After an interesting question-answer session, Mr. Huang shared his life experiences with the participants and helped guide future researchers in their path. Overall, the event was a huge success among the participants.
